I want to take a second crack at pinups with the beach girls I drew last year. I figure it’s not too soon for a semi-reboot for this series since it’s a new year after all. And looking back I’m not satisfied with the compositions I did with the first pieces.
Since I’m slightly ahead of schedule, I decided to do go ahead and at least lay some groundwork with rough thumbnails I can come back to at any time. Did a few for each before narrowing it down to the ones I liked, and then added onto them without going into much detail.
Oh, and I finally gave each of them names!
Belated b-day gift for Chris (aka thelivingmachine02) and for being such an awesome inspiration.
For anyone checking this out for the first time, my original concept was based on Chris’ idea of his character Anita being a pickpocket in her youth, so I wanted to play around with that. Plus I liked the outfit he designed for her.
I assumed that she came from a wealthy family since she went to private school so I thought it’d be fitting that she’d be looking back at an old photo of her family or friends, before things got rough or possibly even tragic.
Found some really old stuff I did a really long while back on my old backup hard drive.
I can’t remember if I ever submitted these to DA and deleted them, but there’s no point putting these there so I might as well just dump ‘em here.
Two bust commissions for @Ric-M. These are two of his Beach Girls. :3
I’m still open for commissions! Note me if you’re interested, thank you!
Two busts of my pinup gals Keila and Geraldine I commissioned from David (aka Redblooper)! I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed with the results, guh, they just look so cute and beautiful, and not to mention so tantalizing! <3
Thanks again man,you rock! If anyone is interested, he’s still open for commissions!
Oh, I guess Dash was just dreaming. I threw this bit in as an afterthought, I just thought it’d be cute (and funny) to make RD having still crushing on her Wonderbolt idol, even when she’s dozing off.
Someone’s gonna miss out on there morning coffee, and unfortunately Fluttershy is just a bit more amused than concerned.
Fluttershy: “pffft, uh Dash, you alright there?”
Rainbow Dash and Soarin for a late Valentines Day pic- snuggling and keeping warm while sharing a cup of coffee.
Decided to go with something winter-ish considering that it’s still plenty cold and snowy where I’m at.
Finishing up belated giftart is going to be my priority this month, so first up is for Kevin (EeyorbStudios)
Rudy is one of my favorite characters of his because she’s a badass pilot, so I went off of that. And her story arc is quite tragic, although I don’t think I’m entirely up to date on any changes to it ^^; Originally I wanted to throw in some Eeyorb ships in the background.
Hope you like it!
The second half.
They’re all jumbled up, but they are relatively recent from fall 2013 up to late December.
Gesture sketchdump 1 of 2. Had to split the file because it was too big.
These are gestural studies I try to do daily before I move on with my usual stuff. I pulled most of the ones from January and late December, but I also threw in some ones I did in summer and fall of 2013 (the bottom half). I use http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/ but lately I’ve been following Proko.com and purchased his photos to practice from, along with following his technique for gesture drawing.
Motorcycle and tank studies I did back in the summer and late fall of 2013.
Now that I’m done with the MLP portrait series (#1), I spent time searching for old sketchbooks to upload.
Some, like a few of the tanks, I did spend more time to put a different perspective and keep in mind contour, but most of them (especially the motorcycles) were very quick and abstract studies that I did in my small sketchbook. They’re sloppy, I know XD
I also have a lot of other studies like figure gestures I’d like to upload, perhaps tomorrow or next weekend.
Portrait 14. Wet mane Octavia at the spa.
Not the most original idea I know, but I wanted to try it out anyway for practice. Plus I’ve always liked Tavi.
Portrait 13. I mentioned before that I was most likely going to do a season 1 version of Luna, who I always liked to imagine as a teenager version of her, so that did affect some subtle choices on how I drew her, just a little.
I didn’t follow her mane exactly just loosely based off of it. Even though this is a portrait I still tried to make her look a bit slender but not too lanky. So with all that said this didn’t exactly end up what I had in mind originally, but I don’t mean that in a bad way because that was before I even thought about minor subtleties.
And I did sketch out one more portrait, so technically this is the second to last for real this time…I promise ^^;
Portrait 12 and second to last is Lil’ Luna with her S1 Luna plushie. Probably wants a bedtime story from Celestia. Last one will be season 1 Luna.
Why Luna again? I can’t help it she’s my favorite princess, and drawing her one time (let alone one version of her) didn’t seem like enough.
Sorry it’s taking me longer than expected to wrap these up, but those following my tumblr already know that I’ve gotten started on other stuff so there was a bit of back and forth between different things this week.
Work in progress, and pre-critique version. This ISN’T FINISHED xD;
I want to post the progress so far with this practice piece, although technically, this version is already a few days old since I’m not at my home computer. The one I’m working on right now is addressing a lot of the issues that a couple of my friends Drew and Nico brought up post-sketch, such as the length of her left leg being too short, and a lot of wonky stuff happening with and around her breasts. Thanks again you guys for the critiques and the suggestions. Things still may be off even after I do revisions but at least a lot of things were caught that I really just forgot about.
All that’s left really aside from finishing the background is fixing her head. Nico provided me with two solutions that I’m still trying to figure out what will work best (either redo it entirely with a more downward perspective or tilt her head back to look up at the viewer, as I originally intended).
This is a thumbnail sketch for a full-body Daring Do piece that I originally wanted to do back before I started doing the portraits. She’s either going to be holding a giant ring or have it around her neck.
I used photo ref of my brother for the pose and perspective. I know things are still pretty off.
So if anyone has any critiques/suggestions, definitely feel free to message me.
